It’s a truly beautiful time of year, where each day ends a little brighter and warmer than the last, inviting guests to bask in the glory of nature’s awakening.
With limited spots available, May is highly sought after by those wishing to experience the quintessential English spring. What’s more, Stourhead also caters to folks who are not able to walk too far by providing a shuttle bus and guided tours in a golf cart!

The Cotswolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, beckons with its rolling hills and quaint villages, offering a slice of quintessential English countryside charm. This region is an embroidered tapestry of lush greenery and historical architecture, where every turn along its winding lanes reveals a scene ready for a postcard.
Castle Combe, our nearest gem, is often the starting point for many. But for those willing to venture deeper into the heart of the Cotswolds, villages like Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, and the enchanting duo of Lower & Upper Slaughter, await. And let’s not forget Bibury, once described by William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England.”
As you explore, you’ll discover vibrant town squares and peaceful hamlets. Each offers its unique selection of country pubs, charming tearooms, and little shops where local artisans sell their wares. This is a place where tradition is not just preserved; it’s a way of life.
Allocating a full day for this excursion allows ample time to soak in the serene beauty and bustling activity of these historic spots. Your journey to and from the Cotswolds will be approximately an hour of scenic enjoyment each way, experienced in the company of Nathan, your knowledgeable chauffeur and guide, from the executive comfort of our Mercedes people-carrier.
To enhance your day, Laura will prepare a picnic basket brimming with all your chosen favourites, perfect for a delightful lunch amid the Cotswolds’ picturesque settings. This experience isn’t just a day trip; it’s a journey through the heart of England’s pastoral splendour, meticulously organised to ensure you return with memories to cherish and stories to share.

Recipe of the Month: Laura’s Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb
- 1 rack of frenched lamb or enough for 2 + per person.
- 3 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- Salt and Pepper
- ⅓ cup bread crumbs
- ⅓ cup grated Parmesan
- 1 Tablespoon minced fresh rosemary
- 1 Tablespoon minced flat-leaf parsley
- 1 large clove garlic
- Preheat oven to 450 F / 230 C
- Heat a large skillet over a high heat. Drizzle lamb with 1 Tbsp. olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Sear until browned on all sides, about 3 minutes per side. Place on a baking tray and let rest for 10 minutes
- Meanwhile, in a blender, combine bread crumbs, parmesan, rosemary, parsley and garlic. Stir in olive oil and season with salt and pepper and blend
- Pat the breadcrumbs over the lamb rack in an even layer
- Bake 25 minutes for medium / medium rare. Let rest 10 minutes then slice between the bones into individual chops.
If the lamb isn’t cooked enough for your taste just leave in the oven 5 minutes longer respectively.
I have served with celeriac and potato puree mash, air fried potatoes, home grown boiled carrots, buttered, garlic asparagus and red wine gravy. Yummmmmy!

Our Final Thought…
“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”
In the timeless words of Charles Dickens, we are reminded that the essence of Christmas goes beyond the festive season — it’s a sentiment to be cherished and lived throughout the year.
Here at Well Cottage, we embrace this spirit wholeheartedly. Our dedication to creating moments of joy, warmth, and connection doesn’t end with the decorations. It’s woven into the very fabric of our service, ensuring that every guest feels the comfort and goodwill of Christmas no matter the season.

May the close of this year find you wrapped in the warmth of cherished company and the promise of many happy tomorrows. And as we look ahead, let us all hold the magic of Christmas close to our hearts, nurturing its glow every day, in every encounter, throughout all the seasons to come.
From our family to yours, we wish you a safe, blissful, and truly splendid festive season. Here’s to living the Christmas spirit today, tomorrow, and every day after!
With heartfelt wishes and festive cheer,
Nathan & Laura
