Some of our frequently asked questions…
Q. Do we need to rent a car?
A. No, you absolutely do not need to rent a car. In fact, renting a car would be unnecessary and potentially counterproductive to your English Cottage Vacation experience.
Why You Don’t Need a Car:
Nathan picks you up directly from the airport or your hotel—from the moment you land or are ready to travel to Well Cottage, you’re already in our luxury Mercedes V-Class vehicle. He provides all transportation throughout your stay and handles your transfer back at the end, meaning you never need your own vehicle.
Beyond convenience, there are practical reasons why having Nathan as your driver is invaluable:
All fuel, parking fees, and tolls are included in your package
You won’t have to navigate unfamiliar roads or drive on the left side
Well Cottage is situated in the countryside where roads are extremely narrow—single-lane country lanes with high hedges that often require reversing and maneuvering through tight spaces. Nathan is an expert at navigating these conditions, making your vacation stress-free rather than attempting to navigate them yourself
Nathan knows the best and most scenic routes that your satnav may not take you on, including quicker alternatives and hidden shortcuts that only locals know
No need to worry about finding or paying for parking at busy attractions
Nathan serves as both driver and guide, enhancing every journey with local knowledge and insights
The Advantages of Not Driving…
Without the responsibility of driving, you can:
Fully relax and enjoy the scenery during travel
Have a glass of wine at lunch or dinner without concern
Avoid the stress of navigation and parking
Benefit from Nathan’s expertise about routes, timing, and hidden gems
Renting a car would add unnecessary expense and stress to your vacation while providing no additional benefit. Our comprehensive chauffeur service is designed to give you complete freedom without any of the burdens of self-driving—and it’s quite simply the best vehicle value you can possibly have on a vacation.
Q. Do you provide chauffeur or transfer services during our stay?
Yes, absolutely. Nathan serves as your personal chauffeur throughout your entire stay, providing all transportation in our luxury Mercedes V-Class vehicle.
What’s Included:
All transfers to and from excursions and activities
Transportation for your dining-out experience
Any additional trips you’d like to make during your stay
All fuel, tolls, and parking fees
How It Works: You never need to worry about navigation, parking, driving on the “wrong” side of the road, or any logistics. Nathan handles all driving, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy the scenery. He knows the best routes, the hidden shortcuts, and where to find parking at even the busiest attractions.
During excursions, Nathan accompanies you as both driver and guide, sharing local knowledge and ensuring you get the most from each experience. When you’re ready to leave, he’s there to collect you—no waiting, no coordination stress.
This is one of the most valued aspects of an English Cottage Vacation: the freedom
Q. Do you help with pre- or post-London travel plans?
Yes, we’re happy to provide recommendations for your time in London before or after your stay at Well Cottage.
What We Can Help With:
Hotel recommendations based on where in London you’d like to be based, or suggestions on the best areas to stay
Recommendations for must-see sites and attractions
For Extended London Stays: If you’re spending more than a day or two in London, we highly recommend our associate Charley from Totally Tailored. She is much more adept and knowledgeable about London itself and can help create a full itinerary with a guided tour-style experience.
Charley has excellent contacts throughout London and can arrange:
Bespoke London itineraries tailored to your interests
Luxury chauffeur services (luxury cab with tour guide)
VIP access and reservations
Special seasonal experiences (particularly valuable during Christmas when the city is busier and there are so many festive light displays and attractions to see)
Our Recommendation on Timing:
We recommend visiting London in the week or days before arriving at the cottage, rather than after. Here’s why: by the time you’ve finished your stay with us, you’ll be so relaxed that going into a busy, bustling city can feel a bit overwhelming. It’s much nicer to experience the busy part first, then transition into the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere of the cottage and countryside.
Transfer Arrangements:
Whole Cottage Bookings: Nathan can pick you up from your London hotel when you’re ready to make your way to Well Cottage, ensuring a seamless transition from city to countryside.
Shared Cottage Bookings: If you’re spending time in London prior to your Shared Cottage week, you’ll need to get yourself back to Heathrow within the allotted timeframe—between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM on the morning your vacation with us starts. Nathan will then pick you up as a group with the other guests arriving at that time.
There is a bit more flexibility with drop-offs back to London if you’re staying in a London hotel after your cottage stay. Nathan can work out the logistics with you during your time with us.
